Gigatown
A Waxeye case study
Fourteen months of Gigamania finally ended when Dunedin was declared the winner of the ultimate community prize: ultra fast broadband citywide. Designed to stir a buzz of conversation, locals won points for their town by using pre-defined #Gigatown hashtags. Every piece of hash-tagged content earned Gigapoints, and so did subsequent shares, likes, re-tweets and comments.

The guys at Chameleon Partners cracked the concept and we took care of the digital elements – building the web and mobile sites, managing the points collection system, and wrangling the promotions for much of the 14-month project. We also ran a team that captured spam, to make sure it was a fair contest. Could this be New Zealand’s largest ever social media competition? Maybe!
